On Nov. 15, a Belgian Malinois named Diesel was killed during a raid in response to the recent terrorist attacks in Paris. In a gesture of solidarity, the Russian Interior Ministry later donated a puppy to the French police to eventually replace Diesel.
Since that puppy will need to be trained when he gets older, an organization in Texas is offering another more immediate solution by giving France a fully trained single-purpose police dog, the Associated Press reported today.
The nonprofit, K9s4Cops, which trains and donates dogs to law enforcement agencies and other organizations, has narrowed the candidates down to three dogs. The dog eventually selected will be named Liberty.
"We are very, very happy and very, very honored to have … K9s4Cops working on finding the perfect match for our police officer,” said Pierre-Edouard Colliex, the French Homeland Security Attache.
