Once again, the Labrador Retriever took Houston’s top spot in the 2016 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The Labrador Retriever was also recognized as the #1 pup in the country, along with multiple cities including Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Denver to name a few.

The French Bulldog jumped two spots into 4th, while the Boxer made its triumphant return to the top 10 after being ranked 11th in 2015.

“The French Bulldog came to play with the big breeds this year in Houston” said AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo. “Breaking into the city’s top five this year, the Frenchie is great for a variety of people like the other four breeds ranked alongside it.”

While the Labrador Retriever continues its reign as America’s dog, the Rottweiler has been slowly but surely rising up the list over the past decade. The confident, loyal and loving Rottie was the eighth most popular breed in the nation in 2016, its highest ranking since landing at number two in 1997.
