Two years ago, in May of 2013, something incredible happened in Alaska.
Buddy the German Shepherd was trapped with his family in their burning home. After being let loose by his owner to avoid the flames, he led an Alaska State Trooper back to the burning house. The State Trooper saw Buddy on the road and quickly realized the dog was trying to to get his attention and, just like a scene out of Lassie, followed him all the way home in time to safely evacuate the family and alert proper authorities to tend to the flames.
This is truly special as it isn’t natural behavior for a dog to run towards fire. We salute Buddy as a true hero dog in Alaska and pay tribute to service dogs and their military companions who have served, and continue to protect us and keep us safe.
