THE GSDC OF CENTRAL OHIO TEACHES FIRST AID FOR DOGS

The German Shepherd Dog Club of Central Ohio, Inc. hosted an educational presentation on first aid for dogs on, Tuesday November 15. Pet owners gathered at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard, Ohio to learn ways to help their pets in case of a medical emergency. The presenter during the event was AKC Canine Ambassador, Kathi Jo Zornes, who is also certified in Pet First Aid & CPR.

Zornes demonstrated the steps to assist an injured or sick pet using a homemade First Aid kit. The audience learned how to use the tools inside the kit for common injuries and ways to be innovative when resources are limited.  Topics covered during the event included: how to transport an injured dog, treat a burn injury, save a choking a dog, and more. In addition, dog owners were given materials that listed human medications that are safe enough to give their dogs. Attendees were also given a Pet Emergency sheet where they can include emergency contacts and medical record information to keep on hand.
