German Shorthaired Pointer Wins Best In Show At 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

After two long nights of tough competition, GCH Vjk-Myst Garbonita's California Journey, a German Shorthaired Pointer, was crowned Best In Show at the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show presented by Purina® Pro Plan® at Madison Square Garden in New York Feb. 16. Judge Dr. Richard Meen of Toronto selected the 3-year-old, also known as CJ. He is fed Purina® Pro Plan® Sport Performance 30/20 Chicken & Rice.

His win marks the 10th year that a Westminster Best In Show winner was fed Purina® Pro Plan®. All seven group winners were fed Purina® Pro Plan®.

He is owned by Valerie Atkinson, Alice Manning, and Yvonne Hassler-Deterding and was bred by Alice Manning, Anita Weiss, and Valerie Nunes-Atkinson. He is handled by Valerie Atkinson.

"This is something I've dreamt about," Atkinson said. "It's shocking, surreal. He is a great Shorthair, but there were seven fabulous dogs out there.

"In the ring, he is very serious, at home, he is very silly. His best friend is a Whippet named Ramona and they run around the property ... He's a typical dog, he's a normal dog, he always has to have something in his mouth."

The Reserve Best In Show title went to CH Belisarius Jp My Sassy Girl, also known as Lucy, a Borzoi from Japan. The 3-year-old is owned by Mai Ozeki and was bred by Kyoto Ozeki. She is fed Purina® Pro Plan® Focus Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach.
