Family First K9 Academy and AKC Scent Work Judge and CGC evaluator, Jeremy McLaughlin are pleased to present an award of recognition to McCracken County Jail K9 Deputy Matt Ramsey and his K9 partner Jake. Shortly after taking office, McCracken County Jailer Tonya Ray recognized that a well socialized K9 would be a great asset to the community. Deputy Ramsey purchased his Belgian Malinois with his own funds and understood the importance of proper socialization as it pertains to law enforcement and presenting a professional image. Deputy Ramsey and Jake went through the AKC Star Puppy Program and have tested and earned the Canine Good Citizen, CGCA and CGCU.
It is through training and understanding the importance of such valuable AKC programs that McCracken County Jail has expanded their role with their K9 unit. Deputy Ramsey and Jake are now in the process of becoming certified as a therapy dog team and will begin logging hours for the AKC therapy dog title. This duo helps to reduce contraband within the jail to increase safety among the inmates and visits schools to help educate kids on the dangers of drugs. Deputy Ramsey also plans to visit local nursing homes and sick children with his partner Jake. Famiy First K9 Academy and AKC Judge and CGC Evaluator, Jeremy McLaughlin are proud to recognize Deputy Matt Ramsey and K9 Jake for their dedication to the people of McCracken County.
