Photography Exhibit Showcases Healing Power Of Dogs For HIV-Positive People

A new photography exhibit launching Dec. 1 for World AIDS Day showcases the stories of HIV-positive people and how their dogs better their lives.

The "When Dogs Heal" exhibit was created by Dr. Rob Garfalo and photographer Jesse Freidin after Garfalo said his dog, a Yorkshire Terrier named Fred, saved him after he learned he was HIV positive.

"I'm not exaggerating when I say that he saved my life," Garfalo said.

Garfalo and Freidin traveled to five U.S. cities to photograph HIV-positive dog owners to show the powerful bond they shared with their dogs. The moving stories they collected will accompany the photos in the exhibit, which opens Dec. 1 in Chicago and Dec. 3 in New York
