A Canadian family had a scare last week, but thanks to their loyal dog, Sid, the situation wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
Sid woke up Niki and Mark Traverse on Sunday, August 10, at about 4:30 in the morning by barking incessantly, CTV reported. Niki went to see what was causing the commotion and to her surprise found a grizzly bear in their kitchen—only 10 feet from the bedroom door of their teenage son—eating cat food.
“The bear was right here, like three feet from me,” she told CTV (scroll down for video). “I ran back into our bedroom to grab my husband to say, ‘There’s a bear in the house!’”
When Niki’s husband, Mark, entered, the bear came toward him, and Mark shot and killed it. According to CTV, a conservation official claimed the bear was in poor health with low body fat.
It was later determined the bear broke a window screen and entered through the window. Mark believes Sid is the reason they're still alive.
