Patches, the Crossing-Guard Dog Who Was Fired, Starts New Job

You can't keep a good dog down.

We recently shared the story of Patches, a mixed-breed dog who used to accompany his owner, Brad Curtis, to his job as a crossing guard for the Jersey Shore Area School District. Patches donned his own doggie-sized uniform and was popular among residents. That is, until about a month ago, when the dog was featured in the local news. School administrators, who only learned about the dog’s morning ritual through the media attention, instructed Curtis to leave Patches at home.

But as it turns out, glowing references from the residents payed off. Patches was recently hired to a new position, as a security guard dog (in name only) and Good Will Ambassador at the nearby gift shop, Country Beary Shack.

With the job came a new uniform and another spot on the news.
