Now that we’re deep into the dog days of summer, everyone is begging to be able to take a dip in a cool pool. And this yellow Lab is no exception.
In a video posted this week, a six-month-old Labrador Retriever named Maddie shows her family just how resourceful she can be when mercury is rising.

It’s no wonder the Labrador Retriever is at the top of the AKC’s list of most popular breeds. This intelligent and friendly breed excels at problem-solving skills and is a great fit for families.
Also, there’s a reason Maddie loves the water so much—it’s part of her heritage. Labradors were originally bred to work with fishermen on their boats, catching and retrieving fish. Although their days on the sea are long behind them, they still maintain their waterproof coats, webbed feet, and love of water. And of course, they still have that hunting drive—many owners enjoy bringing their Labs along for fishing or hunting trips. But for others, perhaps a dip in the kiddie pool is all they need to satisfy their passion for swimming.
But if you find that your dog is especially interested in water play, you may consider signing him up for Dock Diving. Dogs can now earn AKC titles in this sport, in which dogs leap off a dog to fetch an object. Learn more about it here.
