Celebrity artist Cindy Lass shows her commitment to the goals of DOGNY with her exhibition and silent auction of "Celebrity Pawtraits," to be held at New York City's Hudson Hotel on May 19.
One of London's most popular modern figurative artists, Cindy has become a world-renowned name through her portraits of the dogs of Elton John, Cate Blanchett, Sting and Trudie Styler, Kristin Davis, George Michael, and many others. Her New York City show will feature portraits of the pets of several celebrities known throughout the world.
Cindy's work has proved incredibly popular due to her vibrant, bold use of color and the captivating energy which flows from every canvas. She has the gift of capturing her subject in a delightful, naïve style all her own – be it a landscape, a still life or a floral study. Working in acrylics and water colors, Cindy draws her inspiration directly from her life experience.
At the tender age of nine, Cindy was an aspiring ballerina, pursued by the Bolshoi Ballet. She subsequently expressed her artistic talent as an actress, appearing in several television and film roles. The beginning of her career as a painter was quite untraditional. Upon framing her first painting, she was encouraged by Barbara Grundy of the Contemporary Art Gallery to pursue her hobby seriously. Cindy was then propelled into the London art world after exhibiting at the Orangery in Holland Park in 1994.
In addition to several exhibitions in London and Monte Carlo, Cindy concentrates on private commissions. Many of her works appear in prominent private collections. An ardent supporter of many charities, Cindy has donated her artwork to be auctioned for the benefit of the British Red Cross, Battersea Dogs Home. Cindy now is auctioning her artwork in support of DOGNY – America's Tribute to Search and Rescue Dogs.
By holding her Celebrity Pawtraits event in New York City, Cindy shines the spotlight on dogs and the people who love them this side of the Atlantic. As an expression of support for Canine Search and Rescue organizations, Cindy will donate the net proceeds of her event to the AKC CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund.
