Another year, another April Fools' Day. Whether you're a fan of the day, or choose to abstain from all the tomfoolery, we all appreciate a well-executed, harmless prank… when we’re not involved.
Here is a roundup of some of the funniest, craziest, and most absurd dog related pranks pulled off this year.
1. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society appointed the, “world’s first whisky sniffer dog,” to their tasting panel. Chaucer the Golden Retriever will help sniff out the finest whiskies and market his own special variety called Barking Mad a, “pedigree single malt,” with notes of “malty biscuits and smoky meat.” It is described as a “pedigree dram perfect sitting in front of the fire after a long walk.”
2. Domain, writes of real estate agency, Ray White’s great prank: auctioning off a dog house for $1.25 million. The agency milked the joke by saying, “’Shih Tzus. Labs that lunch, and big German Shepherds,’ battled it out to get ta paw on the property ladder.”
3. Chegg, a popular educational resource and retailer, got in on the fun by expanding their robust tutoring services to include puppy tutors. Of their program they say, “We’re improving how students study. Less stress. More snuggles. Slight drool…” They offer a list of nine different puppy tutors to work with, all with different subject matter expertise.
Their site asks users, “What makes a dog more miserable than chocolate, rainy days, and flea collars? Lame glasses.” They offer a solution of optical, for everyday dogs, and sunwear, for light-sensitive dogs.
5. A line of intimates, thirdlove, launched a bra for dogs called the Plunge Pawfect Bra saying, “Woman’s best friend deserves support too.” The product comes in one color and 18 sizes—all the traditional women’s wear measurements. They are marketed to be, “as beautiful as a tennis ball.”
