  • The Russell Terrier is AKC's 175th breed.
  • At the July 2011 Boarding the Russell Terrier Club, Inc. became the official parent club for the Russell Terrier. The Russell Terrier became eligible for AKC registration, June 1, 2012 and was eligible for competition in the Terrier Group, effective June 27, 2012. There will be an open registry for the breed until July 1, 2017.
  • At the May 2009 Board Meeting the AKC American Russell Terrier Club will serve as the AKC Parent Club to represent the Russell Terrier and became eligible to compete in the Miscellaneous Class, effective January 1, 2010.
  • At the August 2006 Board Meeting the Russell Terrier became eligible to compete in AKC Companion and Earthdog Events this became effective January 1, 2007.
  • At the October 2005 Board Meeting two new breeds were added to the Foundation Stock Service Program - the Russell Terrier and Spanish Water Dog.
  • The Russell Terrier has been assigned the Terrier Group designation.
  • The Russell Terrier has been recorded in the Foundation Stock Service since October 2005.
  • Country of origin England. Country of development Australia.
  • The Russell Terrier is considered the ultimate working earth terrier never bred for bench.
  • The ancestry of the breed combines the ultimate size, instinct, and construction for the working earth terrier
