The Las Vegas, Nevada City Council is expected to consider reversing its pet sales restriction at its Wednesday, November 1st meeting. Area residents are strongly encouraged to contact the Las Vegas City Council to support Bill 2017-40, which would repeal the law prohibiting pet shops from selling or disposing of dogs, cats or potbellied pigs other than those obtained from an animal care facility or nonprofit animal rescue organization.
Last week, the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Animal Care division announced an extension of the comment period for public input on possible updates to Animal Welfare Act licensing requirements.
The Ohio House of Representatives Economic Development, Commerce, and Labor Committee is scheduled to consider a bill on Tuesday, October 24th, that would allow dogs in outdoor eating establishments, with permission from the business owner.
The State Government Administration Committee is scheduled to consider a bill on Wednesday, October 25, that would endorse the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program. Illinois residents are strongly encouraged to contact members of the State Government Administration Committee prior to the hearing on Wednesday, October 25. Let them know that you support the AKC and its Canine Good Citizen Program, and encourage the committee members to approve House Resolution 602.
The Clark County, Nevada Board of Commissioners is expected to consider changes to its animal control ordinances at its Tuesday, October 17th meeting. The proposal seeks to restrict sales of dogs and cats at pet stores to those obtained from an animal shelter or rescues organization. Area residents are strongly encouraged to contact Clark County to oppose this onerous measure.
New York residents are encouraged to ask Governor Cuomo to support Senate Bill 2589, which would allow owners to take their companion animals on public transportation if a state of emergency is declared.
Earlier this week, AKC Government Relations (AKC GR) provided an action alert on two Massachusetts bills of major concern, House Bill 1080 and Senate Bill 1155, in preparation for their committee hearing next week. Since then, additional bills have been scheduled for consideration next week.
