Club Spotlight: Ox Ridge Kennel Club
The Ox Ridge Kennel Club (ORKC) of Darien, CT recently co-sponsored a canine health clinic with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). Organizer Jane Wooding and many volunteers from ORKC and Bethel Village Square Animal Hospital welcomed all breeds to the annual clinic, offering eye exams, heartworm tests, the SNAP test (which detects heartworm and Lyme Disease, among other things), BAER hearing testing, thyroid tests and Optigen 20/20. Microchipping and enrollment in the AKC Reunite pet recovery service was offered as well. Dog owners could also have their dog’s DNA collected for AKC’s DNA Certification Program and the CHIC DNA Repository.
Thanks to Dr. Frances Paulin of Bethel Village Square Animal Hospital and Drs. Eric Ledbetter and Ellis R. Loew of Cornell University for running the health clinic.
They performed close to 300 procedures and saw more than 20 breeds, including a Vizsla, Rottweiler, French Bulldog, Golden Retriever, Chinook, Siberian Husky, Yorkshire Terriers, Silky Terriers, English Setters, Gordon Setters, Afghan Hounds, German Shorthaired Pointers, Doberman Pinscher, Leonberger, Cocker Spaniels, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Boston Terriers, Chinese Shar-Pei, Smooth Fox Terrier, Welsh Springer Spaniel, Canaan Dog, Cairn Terrier, English Toy Spaniel, Alaskan Klee Kai, Portuguese Water Dogs, Havanese, and Poodles. Several mixed breeds were also in attendance, including “Miss Willa,” who was diagnosed with Lyme disease after the clinic and is now on the road to recovery.
