The Hall of Fame gallery at the AKC Museum of the Dog in St. Louis is now open
to visitors. The exhibit, located in the museum's lower level gallery, honors
dogs of merit in the categories of Show Ring, Obedience, Field Trials, Service,
and Media. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a 30-foot long mural depicting the fourteen dogs inducted into the Hall of Fame thus far. An informational storyboard with the dogs' histories runs underneath the mural. The mural was painted by Stephen Hubbell, a canine artist and AKC judge from Weaverville, California. As additional dogs are elected to the Hall of Fame, the mural will expand to cover all four walls of the gallery.
Additional features in the Hall of Fame include collectibles, photographs, trophies, and other memorabilia displayed in a handsome, Georgian-style cabinet. Visitors can view information on the Hall of Fame dogs and see film clips of the Hall's media inductees--Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, and Toto-on interactive touch-screen computers.
The Hall of Fame gallery was designed under the direction of the firm Hellmuth, Obata, and Kassabaum/Studio E. Chief Designer Chip Reay incorporated Greek Revival elements into the exhibit to make it consistent in style with the Museum's Jarville House galleries.
