Ellen E. Schmidt is from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated magna cum laude and with departmental honors from the University of New Mexico in May 2007, receiving her BA in History with a minor in Medieval Studies. Her honors thesis, titled "Unveiling the Brides of Christ" won the department's Coan Memorial Award for best senior thesis. Another of her works, an essay titled "Birth of the White Knight," was published by UNM's Best Student Essays in 2005. She plans to continue her education in this field by pursuing a graduate degree in History or Medieval Studies. She has loved dogs since an early age. She brings a passion for all breeds and a deep love for sight hounds in particular to her AKC internship. She has worked in veterinarian clinics and grooming salons, and she intends to pursue an interest in training. She is an associate member of both the Irish Wolfhound Club of America and the Rocky Mountain Irish Wolfhound Association.
Projects
A major project Ellen is responsible for as an AKC intern is the Newfoundland Club of America Collection, which includes several rare scrapbooks, pedigrees and photographs of influential dogs, kennels and people. Research on the club and the breed will finalize her work on the collection and culminate in a web page complete with items photographed from the collection. Other duties include assistance with research questions and updating AKC artwork information.
