Event Operations
A conformation dog show concentrates on the distinctive
features of purebred dogs and helps preserve them by providing a forum
for the evaluation of breeding stock.
The Event Operations department is charged with processing plans and maintaining records for AKC dog shows and companion events. In 2005, the AKC sanctioned and regulated 1,490 all-breed dog shows, with 1,784,443 all-breed entries; and 2,194 specialty dog shows, with 168,044 specialty-show entries. There were 22,268 conformation championships, 172 dual championships, and 2 triple championships earned. Event operations staff presented six show-chairmen seminars. The events, two of which were presented jointly with the Dog Judges Association of America, were attended by 239 club show chairmen. After the Gulf Coast hurricanes, Event Operations staff assisted area clubs to relocate and reschedule events, and helped to locate alternate show sites. AKC Rally rolled out in 2005, and Event Operations assisted clubs in applying for, scheduling, and understanding the requirements necessary to conduct rally trials.
