The Internal Consulting Group, a six-member employee team, works with AKC departments to solve problems, develop business plans, increase registrations, and generate revenue. The ICG also serves as a training program for future AKC management.

A major internal AKC project in 2005 was the formulation of a strategic business plan. The ICG acted as liaison and information manager for the Board, senior staff, and outside consultants working together to assess current trends and practices and to plot long-term business strategies.

ICG collaborated with other departments on several of the new initiatives described in detail elsewhere in this report. They included: the creation of both the deluxe Litter Certificates for breeders and the new pedigree design; the launch of the "AKC Breeder" newsletter; and an enhanced and simplified online dog-registration service.
