The Event Operations department is charged with processing plans and maintaining records for the
three AKC event domains: Conformation, Performance, and Companion Events.
The dog show, or “conformation show,” is the signature event of AKC. A dog show concentrates on the distinctive
features of purebred dogs and helps preserve them by providing a forum for the evaluation of breeding stock.
In 2004, AKC sanctioned and regulated a total of 1,475 all-breed dog shows, with 1,729,729 all-breed entries;
and 2,141 specialty dog shows, with 158,651 specialty-show entries. There were 22,429 conformation championships
and 156 dual championships earned.
In January, Robin Stansell was named assistant vice president of Event Operations.
