AKC CANINE HEALTH FOUNDATION
The foundation’s mission is to develop significant resources for basic and applied health programs, with emphasis on canine genetics, to improve the quality of life for dogs and their owners.

In 2004, along with AKC’s annual contribution of $1 million to the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation (CHF), the AKC Board of Directors authorized up to $1 million in additional monies for the endowment fund.

Among the projects bolstered by the additional gift are AKC-CAR Support and Relief, and the University of Pennsylvania health study of the search-and-rescue dogs deployed at the Pentagon and the World Trade Center site in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Research studies supported by the foundation have led to the ongoing development of the canine gene map and the creation of tests for many breed-specific diseases. Since 1995, more than $13 million in canine health grants have been approved.
