AKC CAMPANION ANIMAL RECOVERY
The Companion Animal Recovery (CAR) Corporation is an affiliate organization of AKC, dedicated to reuniting lost microchipped and tattooed pets with their owners.

CAR maintains a permanent-identification database and provides lifetime recovery services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for all animal species, regardless of age or size.

There are now more than 2.7 million microchipped or tattooed pets enrolled in the program. Coordinators have recovered 252,183 pets since the program’s inception in 1995.

The AKC-CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund supports the efforts of America’s search-and-rescue dogs.

In 2004, the fund issued grants to the following organizations:
  • AKC Canine Health Foundation
  • Bluegrass Search and Rescue, Inc.
  • Medical Rescue Team South Authority
  • Raleigh Police Department K-9 Unit
  • Florida Association of Dog Clubs (in support of hurricane relief)
CAR contributed $100,000 to the AKC Veterinary Scholarship fund, administered by the AKC Veterinary Outreach department.
